EASTERN U.S. PREPARED CLAYS formerly Miller Clays
These clays are manufactured at the Laguna-New York facility and are distributed through Laguna's Skaneateles, NY and Cambridge, OH facilities. Although clays are categorized in this section by Cone 10, 5, 06 etc., most of the clays we manufacture have a fairly broad firing range.
CONE 10

WC-379 |
A premier, cream-white, throwing clay that is easy to throw and form. Smooth porcelain texture. Fires gray/white in reduction and lighter in oxidation. |

WC-631 |
Made primarily of English Grolleg. Contains plasticizers to make this the finest translucent porcelain available for throwing, thin slab work and hand building, Excellent white color. Has become the "standard" in the Northeast U.S. |

#560 |
Made of American mined and processed white clays. Excellent white color for throwing, slab and hand building. Not translucent.Large bulbous shapes a cinch. |

WC-634 |
Same as#560 porcelain with lOO mesh fine white grog added. Some very fine, small specks from the grog are present in the fired piece under clear glaze. |

WC-633 |
Grolleg porcelain. Similar to #550. A well accepted standard for grolleg clay bodies. Can be fired a little hotter than #550. |

WC-620 |
White stoneware which is good for functionalware, slabwork and tile. Substitutes sand for grogand fires slightly gray in reduction. |

WC-621 |
White stoneware. The same body as #580 but very smooth and without sand. |
|
WC-625 |
A fine-tooth body, neutral toast when fired in reduction. Oxidation-light in color. This clay has excellent throwing properties. A versatile clay for the studio pofter. |

WC-626 |
Darker toast reduction clay for wheel, slab and sculpture. Excellent body color. Good texture. Do not over-reduce as it goes too dark. |

WC-627 |
An off-white, typical light stoneware throwing clay. Medium texture for good tooth. Contains fire clay, no additional color. |

WC-628 |
Very similar to #700 with a little more toast color. This is considered by many to be the best clay for production pottery. Ideal for those who Sgraffito, wax resis and want a finer texture to minimize picking. Great for planters, etc. |

WC-643 |
A modification of #900. Fine sand is added to maximize stability in firing and drying. |
|
WC-629 |
This low sulfu body is less prone to bloating than most clays in Cone lO reduction firings. You will appreciate minima lsulfur odor. Warm toast color in reduction. Similar properties to #900. |

WC-630 |
This clay is formulated for large, hand thrown pots. Very textured. #950 is similar to the West Coast sand bodies - very plastic. |
|
WC-637 |
A fire clay /ballclay /grog body used for many years by sculptors in the Southeast. Large sculptures are possible. Large slabs and pots are a snap. |

WC-618 |
A very popular white stoneware, #51 0 is a very plastic, smooth, throwing clay with superior hand building and slab properties. Contains fine grog. |

WC-619 |
Similar to #51 0 with more si lica to red uce crazi ng and mo re bal I clay to cause #51 1 to be more forgiving. Some fine speckling creates a stoneware look. Good all-around clay for all methods of forming. |
CONE 8

WC-615 |
Medium textured throwing clay for oxidation firing. Excellent warm brown body color. This body is used by Eastern Canadian production potters to produce a "true reduction body color" look. |
CONE 6
|
WC-600 |
An excellent white clay for throwing, hand work and slab. Depends on an eutectic for maturity. Must be fired to Cone 6 to vitrify. |

WC-616 |
Translucent porcelain. An excellent grolleg body for throwing thin pieces - large or small. |
|
WC-61 |
Grolleg Cone 6 porcelain. Similar to #1 5 with more ball clay, making it less 7 white, more plastic and forgiving. Additional silica reduces crazing in some glazes. Good for slab forming. |

WC-601 |
Terra cofta. A medium texture, plastic red body. Compounded with fireclay and medium grog. Ideal for large sculptures and hand built work, may be thrown on the wheel. |

WC-602 |
Dark buff firing clay. Versatile, medium textured throwing body. |
|
WC-603 |
Buff stoneware for the production potter. Throwing properties are excellent, also works well in hand building and slab work. Fires slightly lighter than #40 buff. |

WC-606 |
Stoneware favorite.Lights and color with fine specks. Excellent Cone6 throwing body which enhances glaze colors and effects. There is no better allaround throwing body available for the stoneware look. Fine specking shows through glazes enhancing the piece. |

WC-607 |
Excellent off-white stoneware clay for wheel work. Minor specking caused by fireclay enhances appearance. Used by many for functional pottery. Neutral glazes are not altered by clay body ingredients allowing for purer glaze color. |

WC-608 |
This clay is compounded to be a stoneware clay with specks that bleed through the glaze, giving the appearance of iron burning through, typical of reduction glazes and clays. A very popular throwing clay for production potters who want to add the speck dimension to their ware. |

WC-609 |
Smooth white stoneware, good for throwing and production of functional whiteware. |

WC-610 |
Same as #65 but includes sand, making it quite desirable for tile, slabs and hand building. |

WC-611 |
A very plastic throwing clay, dark in color, featuring heavy specking. Creates excellent glaze effects with dark gray color and specks. |

WC-612 |
A good wheel and hand building clay body, dark in fired color at Cone 6. Iron colorants in body enhance most glaze color developments. |

WC-61 |
Similar to #40 but fires to red/brown in oxidation, very plastic for throwing. |

WC-61 |
Formulated with fine grog and red art to obtain rich dark color. Good for 4 outdoor pots as well as functional pottery and sculpture when fired to Cone 6. |

B-MIX5 |
Offers the same characteristics enjoyed by our Conel OB-Mix. Its smooth, and form, and it fires to a cream WC-401color in oxidation. |

EM-112 |
Similar properties as #100 clay but a reddish brown color. Usually fired to Cone4. |

Similar properties as #1 00 clay, but a gray-red-brown color. Usually fired to Cone 4 |

EM-110 |
Gray-brown in color, this smooth, plastic "Jordan type" clay is suitable for throwing, sculpting and hand building. Usually fired to Cone 2. A good outdoor sculpture and planter clay when fired carefully to Cone 3/4. |

EM-111 |
A brown-black clay perfect for mustaches, belts and other features on sculptures or thrown pieces. Not recommended above Cone 2. |
CONE 05
|
EM-2134 |
Smooth, plastic, talc free white firing clay, suitable for throwing and EM-100 sculpture. Ideal for beginners and schools, Most low fire commercial glazes fit this body when bisque fired to Cone 05. clear glaze is formulated to work well with this clay body. |

EM-101 |
This clay has the same properties as #1 0 but with medium grog added for larger thrown and sculpture pieces. Lower shrinkage. EM-2134 clear glaze is formulated to work well with this clay body. |

EM-102 |
Similar to the old Newton Potters clay. Higher in talc, and less plastic but very satisfactory for all methods of forming. Excellent for smooth raku. Commercial glazes fit this clay well. Whiter firing than #10-T. |

EM-103 |
A smooth, plastic, white body with a small percentage of talc to create an optimum glaze fit. #1 0-T is very popular among production potters, and is also excellent for hand building, pit and Raku f iring. Its "forgiving" nature has also made #1 0-T a white clay choice for many teachers. EM-2134 clear glaze is formulated to work well with this clay body. |

EM-104 |
This very white, low fire earthenware clay is suitable for all methods of forming. Bisque at 04-05. Glaze at Cone 06. Fits most commercial glazes. |

EM-105 |
A low fire, plastic talc body. Fires buff in oxidation. Very good for both hand building and throwing, and popular with teachers and schools. |

EM-106 |
A smooth, plastic, terra coffa colored clay for wheel throwing and excellent for hand building as well. Fires to a rich terra cotta red. EM-2134 clear glaze is formulated to work well with this clay body. |

EM-107 |
It has the same properties as #20 with a fine grog added for slightly less shrinkage and improved workability. EM-2134 clear glaze is formulated to work well with this clay body. |

Low fire terra cotta sculpture body containing both grog and sand. Great for tiles. |

WC-635 |
Heavily grogged raku clay formulated to resist thermal shock. |

SELF-HARDENING CLAYS
|
WC-640 |
Suitable for throwing, coiling and sculpting. Allow for some shrinkage. Uniform thickness is desirable and may be achieved by hollowing out sections of greatest mass. To maintain workability, store Mexo in an air-tight container until work is completed. Air dries & quite well. Do not fire! Finish with acrylic paints. |
